CMPA: Complications and Solutions
 
Although not life-threatening, if left undiagnosed and untreated, a child with Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) will experience much pain and discomfort, possibly for a long period of time. This could ultimately result in a highly-stressful situation within the home. If left untreated, the symptoms may become progressively worse, resulting in further complications. A child with CMPA shows one or more than the following complications [1][2]:

Even if the child displays any of the symptoms, it is best to visit a doctor to confirm if your child
is allergic to milk protein, as there are also other conditions that may have similar symptoms to CMPA. Once confirmed through a series of tests and review into the child’s medical and feeding history, the doctor will usually prescribe a change of diet and/or even medication in certain cases.

A soy based formula is usually recommended as a favourable option for children with CMPA. Soy protein has long been associated with multiple benefits. It has been used as cow’s milk replacement for more than 100 years and is shown to support growth and development similar to cow’s milk formula [4]. Soy based formula is a viable source of safe and nutritionally complete feeding alternative for children. Other benefits are [5]:
