Soy based formulas are not only recommended as a feeding alternative for children with CMPA, but also for those who are lactose intolerant and/or recovering from diarrhoea [6] and suitable for children who are vegetarians.

Soy based formulas are also different from other soy products like soy beverages. Unlike soy based formulas, soy beverages do not contain nutrient fortification to support proper growth and development in children and therefore, is not a suitable feeding replacement [1].

In a nutshell, there are ample scientific evidences of the efficacy of soy based formulas as a substitute for cow’s milk, especially for children with CMPA. Seeking an appropriate treatment for children with CMPA can make a huge difference in the growth, development and quality of life of both the child and family.

Also, like any allergy, the child may outgrow CMPA. However, it is extremely important not to introduce any milk based or dairy products back into their diet unless recommended by the doctor [7]. Therefore, it is important to keep your doctor abreast about the child's development.
